With the new release, a new function was introduced into IMDS: MDS Updates.

The objective and purpose of this function is to support compliance with change management. Change Management describes the conditions under which a material data sheet must be created anew or updated. In our Journal 09/2014, we have already mentioned this on Page 10.

This function lists updated MDSs of the suppliers and names the individual own or published MDSs which contain an older version of the updated MDS. This function is similar to an analysis (proof of use), except that IMDS automatically generates the content of this list and immediately displays it if a user runs a search in this screen.

The updating process takes place in two steps. In the first step, the actual updating with replacement of the old references by the new ones takes place. The subsequent check of the MDS takes place in the next step. If the result of the check does not contain any error message, the MDS can be released as it is. If there are error messages, the MDS can be edited manually to correct the errors. To shorten the editing time of the MDS, multiple MDSs can be edited simultaneously (updated and released).

If the MDS update function is used to create new versions of the MDS, the updated references are replaced accordingly. A new version can also be created manually as before with the previous function. The control procedure checks whether the relevant updates of referenced MDSs are available. If that is so, a warning is displayed for relevant referenced MDSs. If the system finds an old version, and the user wishes to replace it, the "Replace" button will automatically locate the current version and replace the previous version with the current version.

The MDB Updates screen is located in the “Functions” menu item.
